Last month we took an exciting trip to the 2009 American Association of Advertising Agencies’ Media Conference & Tradeshow in New Orleans. DOmedia team members offered great presentations and interactive games that delivered opportunities to win prizes and network in the process. Though the conference may have been dubbed a tradeshow, we called it an excuse to have fun.
The momentum continues forward at DOmedia as we simplify the process of buying and selling alternative and out-of-home media. Inspiration or Perspiration - You Decide
Alternative advertising at its best, or worst, describes the Right Guard campaign staged in a London subway in July 2008. While Right Guard referred to the alternative publicity as "pitvertising," some referred to it as “icky.” Nevertheless, the deodorant promotion did get center-stage attention from the media and public.
Right Guard's landmark advertisement was produced by installing a video screen in the armpits of their team members' shirts. Whenever one of the team members reached overhead to grab a subway safety railing, a Right Guard commercial would play in their armpits and directly into the faces of other riders.
Right Guard's off-the-billboard advertising was designed to elevate their message above the saturated clutter of today's consumer marketing. It represented a flash of brilliance in the new trend of capturing consumer attention. Criticism notwithstanding, the memorable way of defining a problem (underarm odor) and offering a solution (Right Guard Deodorant) was considered a success by Dial executives, the owners of Right Guard.
